Each year, we try to bring a varied, not to say eclectic, range of subjects to the
fore, with the aim of providing an interesting experience to all our members and
guests. Hopefully, we succeed.
Very occasionally, for reasons beyond our control, it may be necessary to re-arrange
or cancel a meeting. The Meeting Status indicator will be updated to amber if the
meeting is under review, or red if the meeting has been cancelled. Full details will
Calendar for the 2018-2019 Season
To make things clearer, we've colour coded the type of meeting:
Blue is for regular Members' Evenings,
Green is for Evenings where a visiting speaker will make a
Red is for the AGM. Be there, or be on the Committee next year!
4th September 2018
We have a tradition in our Club of Alphabetic Philately. Each Season we have an evening
of Members’ displays based around two letters of the alphabet; one from each half.
This year, the two letters are ‘G’ and ‘T’ The only limits are those of imagination!
2nd October 2018
This evening we will have a positive feast of philately, from our own member Ralph
Stuttard. The first presentation will be on a subject which is extremely popular
thematically: Owls of the World. There is something about these birds which attracts
our interest, and this is reflected on stamps from many countries. The second presentation
concerns the new addition to the philatelic family: Post and Go. Are Post and Go
labels real stamps, or what? Find out tonight!
6th November 2018
With the onset of colder and darker, there is more emphasis on indoor pursuits, especially
philately of course. So this evening we will have an opportunity to look at our friends’
and colleagues’ recent acquisitions, combined with a table top sale to buy and sell
wanted and unwanted material.
This year, there will be no meeting in December.
8th January 2019
As part of our programme each year, we ask our members to show items from their collections
relating to a theme. The subject is widely defined to allow considerable leeway in
interpretation! This evening is one where we will see what a gallery of Saints and
Sinners transpires from ‘World Leaders/USPresidents.’
5th February 2019
This evening is dedicated to the first of our Visiting Speakers for the year; Simon
Carson, proprietor of Philangles, will bring us a superb selection of material relating
to the Postal History of Cheshire. Postal History, of course, gives us the chance
to see how our stamps, and other philatelic material, was actually used for its principal
5th March 2019
This evening will feature our second Visiting Speaker for the year, when we welcome
Graham Chadwick from the Lytham Philatelic Society. The theme of his presentation
will be the pre-decimal stamps and postal history of the island of Lundy, in the
Bristol Channel. Lundy is well known for its issues of ‘back of the book’ stamps
which pay for carriage from the island to the mainland.
2nd April 2019COMPETITION EVENING
This evening will see the competition for the Norman Barlow Great Britain Cup. Entries
should consist of 12 sheets of all types of philatelic material developing a theme
according to a logical plan. Details of the scoring and the general rules can be
found on our •Competitions page
7th May 2019 THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Not just the AGM, but also the Club Auction, where the success of the sales can have
a marked effect on the subscription for the coming year! So, if you want a say in
who is on the Committee next year (or even who is not!) don’t forget to turn up!
4th June 2019
It has become traditional in our Club that the last evening of the season should
be dedicated to postcards. The theme for this year’s evening will be posted in due
course, but NOT second class.
