Each year, we try to bring a varied, not to say eclectic, range of subjects to the
fore, with the aim of providing an interesting experience to all our members and
guests. Hopefully, we succeed.
Very occasionally, for reasons beyond our control, it may be necessary to re-arrange
or cancel a meeting. The Meeting Status indicator will be updated to amber if the
meeting is under review, or red if the meeting has been cancelled. Full details will

Calendar for the 2019-2020 Season
To make things clearer, we've colour coded the type of meeting:
Blue is for regular Members' Evenings,
Green is for Evenings where a visiting speaker will make a
Red is for the AGM. Be there, or be on the Committee next year!
3rd September 2019
We have a tradition in our Club of Alphabetic Philately. Each Season we have an evening
of Members’ displays based around two letters of the alphabet; one from each half.
This year, the two letters are ‘H’ and ‘S’ The only limits are those of imagination!
1st October 2019
One of the great pleasures of being a member of a stamp club or a philatelic society
is looking at the material which others have collected. This evening is a double
pleasure: not only will be we looking at something new, it will be presented by members
visiting from the Northwich Philatelic Society. We will welcome Brian Lythgoe and
5th November 2019
There (maybe) no significance to the date, but what we can say is that with the onset
of colder and darker, there is more emphasis on indoor pursuits, especially philately
of course. So this evening we will have an opportunity to look at our friends’ and
colleagues’ recent acquisitions, combined with a table top sale to buy and sell wanted
and unwanted material.
3rd December 2019
During the autumn we will be taking soundings to see whether members would like a
Christmas meeting and, if so, whether we should have Christmas pudding, or mince
pies or both. Check back soon for further information.
7th January 2020
As part of our programme each year, we ask our members to show items from their collections
relating to a theme. Further information regarding this year’s theme willl be posted
in due course. Don’t forget to check back soon!
4th February 2020
This evening is dedicated to the first of our Visiting Speakers for the year; Barry
Evans from Burnley Philatelic Society will give us a presentation relating to the
Universal Postal Union, one of the earliest international bodies, which regulated
international mails from the 1870s onward to today.
3rd March 2020
This evening will feature our second Visiting Speaker for the year, when we welcome
Graham Chadwick from the Lytham Philatelic Society. We will learn about the decimal
stamps and postal history of the island of Lundy, in the Bristol Channel, in the
second part of his fascinating presentation. Lundy is well known for its issues of
‘back of the book’ stamps which pay for carriage from the island to the mainland.
7th April 2020COMPETITION EVENING
This evening will see the competition for the Leonard Rimmer Trophy. Entries should
consist of 12 sheets of all types of philatelic material excluding thematic displays.
Details of the scoring and the general rules can be found on our •Competitions page
5th May 2020 THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Not just the AGM, but also the Club Auction, where the success of the sales can have
a marked effect on the subscription for the coming year! So, if you want a say in
who is on the Committee next year (or even who is not!) don’t forget to turn up!
2nd June 2020
It has become traditional in our Club that the last evening of the season should
be dedicated to postcards. This evening should result in a real global tour as the
theme for the displays will be ‘Where I went on holiday.’
DATE TO BE CONFIRMED
Earlier this year, we welcomed guests from the Nantwich Philatelic Society to our
meeting. That Society has very kindly invited members of our group to pay a return
visit. As soon as the details are finalised, they will appear here.
Each year we compete for one of our three Trophies. Click here to read the rules
